The Division of Pain Research within the Department of Anesthesiology boasts a robust team of healthcare professionals committed to making innovative discoveries in the management of acute and chronic pain. Research in the Brummett Laboratory focuses on pain research with the goal of improving the quality of life of people with pain. Achieving personalized pain management will transform care, while dedication to our guiding principles enriches the lives of our team members and those in the community. To this end, research staff utilize patient reported outcomes, functional brain MRI, quantitative sensory testing, functional testing, and various blood assays to identify biomarkers and phenotypes that are may be associated with the development of chronic pain, as well as explore methods for improved pain management after surgery.
