Organic Chemistry Undergraduate Teaching Labs

In these labs we teach various organic chemistry and synthesis courses. These labs use significant amounts of organic solvents and an array of instruments such as Benchtop NMR, FTIR, Melting Point, UV Visualization lamps, etc. Some of our sustainability initiatives include automatic timers on our UV lamps to minimize electricity, replacing water aspirators with high efficiency pumps that are on only when needed and implementing findensors to eliminate water cooled refluxing, and working with faculty and instructors to ensure that consumable and chemical use is in accord with pedagogical needs (minimize waste without sacrificing learning goals). {Originally certified gold: April 11, 2013}
