HITO was able to reach platinum certification by using power strips as central turnoff points for equipment and shutting everything off before leaving work, creating a comprehensive recycling collection area, tracking paper use and setting a goal for reduction, and integrating sustainability material into regular staff meetings and new employee orientations. HITO is also investigating the use of motion-sensing power strips and a shared staff-bike for travel around campus.
